Institutional Effectiveness

Mission 

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness advances the mission of Western Nebraska Community College through the responsible collection, organization, analysis, and dissemination of data intended to inform decision making, institutional effectiveness, policy formation, and strategic planning.

Vision

With a focus on confidentiality, excellence, integrity, learning, and respect, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness fosters sustainable and continuous quality improvement of programs, services, and the Institution as a whole, and enhances experience of WNCC students, faculty, and staff.

Values

Confidentiality: The Office of Institutional Effectiveness protects the privacy of WNCC students, faculty, and staff, and ensures the security of the data it collects, analyzes and maintains.

Excellence: The Office of Institutional Effectiveness strives to deliver superior quality in the data it provides. Reported information will always be complete, correct, and timely to the best of our abilities.

General Institutional Information

WNCC gathers data regularly to remain transparent and provide insight on institutional operations and outcomes.

Student Outcomes

WNCC measures and reports a variety of data regarding its students, programs, and outcomes including retention rates, graduation rates, transfer-out rates, outcome measures, and licensure and certification pass rates.

CCSSE Reports

The Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) is a product and service of the Center for Community College Student Engagement in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Texas at Austin.

CCSSE was launched in 2001, in response to a recognized need for a student engagement survey specifically designed for community and technical colleges with the intention of producing new information about community college quality and performance that would provide value to institutions in their efforts to improve student learning and retention, while also providing policymakers and the public with more appropriate ways to view the quality of undergraduate education.

CCSSE provides information on student engagement, a key indicator of learning and, therefore, of the quality of community colleges. The survey, administered to community college students, asks students about their college experiences - how they spend their time; what they feel they have gained from their classes; how they assess their relationships and interactions with faculty, counselors, and peers; what kinds of work they are challenged to do; how the college supports their learning; and so on. These questions help assess institutional practices and student behaviors that are correlated highly with student learning and student retention.

CCFSSE Reports

The Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (CCFSSE) is a product and service of the Center for Community College Student Engagement in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Texas at Austin.

CCFSSE was developed in response to demand from the community college field and is offered as a companion to the CCSSE student survey. CCFSSE is an online census survey that invites all faculty teaching CCSSE-survey eligible courses at participating colleges to share their perspectives on student engagement.

CCFSSE elicits information from faculty about their teaching practices, the ways they spend their professional time, both in and out of class, and their perceptions regarding students’ educational experiences. CCFSSE reports enable participating institutions to view faculty perceptions of student engagement alongside student responses and provide a useful prompt for campus discussions about student engagement and success while inciting interest in their CCFSSE survey results.

IPEDS Data Feedback Reports

The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) is a system of survey components that collects institution-level data on student enrollment, graduation rates, student charges, program completions, faculty, staff, and finances from higher education institutions across the United States. The figures in the reports below provide selected indicators for Western Nebraska Community College and a pre-selected comparison group of institutions.

VFA Reports

The Voluntary Framework of Accountability (VFA) is the accountability framework specifically designed for community colleges with measures developed to fully capture the community college mission and philosophy, as well as the myriad of community college students’ goals, expectations, and educational experiences.

Existing accountability measures in higher education do not adequately measure the unique mission of community colleges. In light of the inadequacy of existing measures, the VFA provides community colleges with a significantly improved ability to assess their performance, identify areas for improvement, and demonstrate their commitment to their academic mission.

The VFA gauges student progress and outcomes including pre-collegiate preparation, academic progress and momentum points, completion and transfer measures, and workforce outcomes for career and technical education.

Economic Impact Studies

Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) creates value in many ways. The college influences both the lives of students and the regional economy. WNCC serves a range of industries in the Western Community College Area, sup­ports local businesses, and benefits society as a whole in Nebraska from an expanded economy and improved quality of life. The benefits created by WNCC even extend to the state and local government through increased tax revenues and public sector savings.

WNCC Economic Impact Studies investigate the economic impacts created by WNCC on the business community and the benefits that the college generates in return for the investments made by its key stakeholder groups - students, taxpayers, and society. Impacts on the regional business community are reported under the economic impact analysis. The returns on investment to students, taxpayers, and society are reported under the investment analysis.
