The mission of the WNCC Adult Education program is to provide lifelong educational opportunities and services to address the unique needs of individuals and the community. We provide knowledge and the 21st Century skills necessary to participate effectively as citizens, workers, parents, family members, and contributing members of the local and global community.

GED Services

Earning a GED means many things to our students. It’s the greater possibility of earning a job. Or a ticket into gaining admission to college. Or even just a sense of accomplishment and pride. Whatever your motivations are, we support you in that endeavor. The best part? Our Adult Education instruction services are completely free!

What is GED?

GED (General Educational Development) is for anyone who wants to earn a Nebraska high school diploma. The GED test, which measures competency of subjects taught in high school, is accepted as an equivalent to a high school diploma by colleges and employers.

How much does it cost?

You are only charged for testing fees, which are $30 per test (four tests) for a total of $120. Instruction is free!

What does the test cover?

The GED test covers four subjects:
Reasoning through Language Arts – focuses on the ability to read closely, write clearly, and edit and understand written English in context.

Social Studies – focuses on social studies reasoning, including civics and government, United States history, economics and geography, and the world.

Science – Focuses on science reasoning, including life science, physical science, and earth and space science.

Mathematics – Focuses on quantitative and algebraic problem solving. An on-screen calculator is available for a portion of the test.

Is the test difficult?

That depends. For some, the material comes naturally. For others, passing the GED can be a challenge. But don’t worry, we’ll help you get there!

How do I register?

If you’re interested in our Adult Education instruction prior to the test, we encourage you to stop by or give us a call at 308.635.6770, and we’ll register you for an orientation.

When you’re ready to take the GED test, register at www.ged.com.

Where can I take the test?

We have testing locations in Scottsbluff, Chadron, and Sidney. However, you also have the option of taking the test online at www.myGED.com.

What can I expect from the test?

How do I receive a copy of my GED transcripts?

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Our Adult Education office also offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to help improve your English literacy in speaking, reading, and writing. Our ESL instruction is geared toward providing you the skills necessary for employment.

El Programa de Educación para Adultos también ofrece Inglés como Segundo Idioma (ESL) clases que lo ayudan a aprender o mejorar la alfabetización en inglés, como hablar, leer o escribir en inglés.
