Business Administration - Business Administration Option
When you complete the Business Administration degree program at WNCC, you will open
the door to a wide variety of career options by either entering the workforce directly
after graduation or transferring to a bachelor’s degree program. With a diverse business
education background, you can apply for positions such as sales manager, city administrator,
office manager, loan officer, public relations specialist, financial planner, and
human resources specialist, to name a few.
You will be able to start in an entry-level administrative position, allowing you
to build your responsibilities and management skills in order to advance into higher
occupations. You will most likely work at a desk in an office setting, creating reports,
attending meetings, and giving presentations on your work. You will work with others,
meet with clients, and will need to have proficient computer software and communication
skills. These careers are interactive and diverse, providing you with a stable career
and the opportunity to advance.
Business Administration - Accounting Option
An Accounting degree at WNCC will provide you with the opportunity to transfer and
complete a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university or to immediately
work after graduation. After the completion of an associate degree, you can pursue
careers as a bookkeeper, accounting assistant or technician, payroll clerk, auditing
clerk, or accounts payable/receivable administrator. Your opportunities with a bachelor’s
degree include being a general accountant, internal auditor, payroll manager, business
analyst, or compliance analyst, and more.
Despite robust computer accounting software used in most businesses today, business
finances are still very much in the hands of an accountant. These positions are crucial
to today’s businesses, and having the analytical knowledge to help direct a company
financially gives businesses indispensable information computers have a difficult
time articulating. Accounting positions are highly sought after and well compensated.
You will almost always work in an office setting with computer programs, needing to
review and analyze company financial data to make recommendations on how best a company
can fiscally succeed. You will need to be detail-oriented, focused, have sound communication
skills, enjoy problem-solving, and have innovative thinking skills. With this, you
will find a rewarding career assisting companies achieve financial success.
Business Administration - Management Information Systems
The Management Information Systems (MIS) program at WNCC provides you with the necessary
skills and foundation to either enter the workforce or to continue your education
at a four-year college or university. Upon completion of the program, you can pursue
careers in systems analysis, network administration, and technical support.
MIS positions are in-demand, stable careers where you assist companies in setting
up and running effective computer software programs and network systems productively
and without interruption. Businesses today are often behind in setting up powerful
software programs and network systems to keep up with the production of information
they are generating, often running out of memory, or using legacy programs that are
no longer useful. Your role in an MIS career is to help businesses find the best technical
tools to help them thrive. You will mostly work in an office setting on a laptop and
desktop, often working after hours to ensure data transfers and updates are completed
successfully. You will need to stay up-to-date on the latest program updates and software
advances in order to keep the business you work with running optimally.
