About the Programs

Western Nebraska Community College's Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program is offered in Scottsbluff and in Sidney. It will teach you the necessary skills and prepare you to pass a Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicle exam and receive a Class A or Class B Commercial Motor Vehicle License. WNCC's CDL training meets the FMCSA's Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements. Upon completion, we assist you in taking the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles driving skills exam administered by the DMV or with a third-party examiner.

This is a non-credit course consisting of online theory, simulator practice, and behind the wheel range and road driving. Driving skills are taught on WNCC trucks with 10 speed manual transmissions, 48’ and 53' dry van trailers, 43' and 48’ flatbed trailers and a grain trailer.

Class B
Class B training is flexible scheduling. Contact us to schedule days and times. For employers; we'll work with you to create a flexible training schedule for your employees that minimizes disruption to workload.

Important Information

Class A

This is a non-credit course consisting of classroom theory, simulator practice, and behind the wheel range and road driving.
You must be 18 years old to take the class.
You must be 21 years old to drive across state lines or operate a vehicle containing hazardous materials.
You will need a valid email address, a phone number with voicemail, access to a computer, and basic ability to use a computer.
Driving skills are taught on WNCC trucks with 10 speed manual transmissions, 53' dry van trailers, a 43' flatbed trailer and a 48' flatbed trailer.
Each class has a maximum enrollment of three students.
WNCC does not administer the NE DMV Driving Skills exam or grant a Class A CDL license. You must pass the State of Nebraska driving skills test to receive your Class A CDL operator's license.

Class B

This is a non-credit two-week course consisting of classroom theory, and behind the wheel range and road driving.
Each class has a maximum enrollment of two students.
Most students finish driving class in under 40 hours depending upon skill level.
Choose automatic or manual transmission.
Flexible scheduling: mornings or afternoons.
Theory instruction is convenient, online and self-paced.
Discounts for multiple employees.
WNCC does not administer the NE DMV Driving Skills exam or grant a Class B CDL license. You must pass the State of Nebraska driving skills test to receive your Class B CDL operator's license.

Specialized CDL Training
WNCC offers Class A CDL training for drivers who want to remove restrictions, refresh driving skills for former CDL holders, or need a CDL that will have restrictions and upgrade from a Class B to a Class A CDL. We will do an assessment to determine if drivers are eligible for our specialized training.

Class A
Tuition: $4,950
Tuition for Nebraska Residents: FREE*
*Nebraska residents are eligible for FREE training through either Gap Tuition Funding or a U.S. Department of Labor grant. While funding lasts.

Class B
Tuition: $1,500
Tuition Includes: course instruction, manual for Commercial Learner's permit (CLP)

Tuition does not include: Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) (approximately $15.00); DOT physical (approximately $125.00); DOT drug test (approximately $55.00); CDL Driving Skills test fees (free from the NE DMV; may range from $200-$300 with third party testers; CDL Licensing Fee from DMV (approximately $60.00).

Financial Assistance

Gap Tuition Funding Application
For those who qualify, Community College Gap Funding covers the cost of tuition and direct costs related to enrolling in the course and achieving licensure. Gap does not pay for room and board, nor travel expenses. It is a grant-based program so students don’t have to pay it back. Eligibility is based on household income at the time of application.

Nebraska Career Scholarships

Western Nebraska Community College, in collaboration with the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, is offering scholarships awarding up to $3,500 per school year. To qualify students must:

Be a resident of Nebraska or border states Colorado, South Dakota, or Wyoming
Be a first-time student enrolling at WNCC or a first-time transfer student to WNCC
