Help people sustain their oral health through routine teeth cleanings, check-up exams, and education that lead to healthier lives. A career in dental hygiene comes with many benefits. It’s a job that is consistently in demand, pays well, and gives you the flexibility to work on your schedule, whether that’s weekends, part-time, full-time, or in different offices. Dental hygienists help dentists see more patients by taking and developing x-rays, providing preventative care, such as applying fluoride and sealants, and educating patients on better oral health.

Located at our Scottsbluff Campus, WNCC’s Pre-Dental Hygiene emphasis area provides you coursework to give you the opportunity to transfer to and complete a degree program at an accredited college of dental hygiene.

About the Program

Program Objectives

To provide an education that includes basic sciences including microbiology, chemistry, pathology, and anatomy and physiology to develop the skills necessary for a dental hygienist.
To prepare students for transfer to a degree program from an accredited school or college of dental hygiene.

Career Opportunities

WNCC’s Pre-Dental Hygiene program will prepare you to continue your education at a Dental Hygiene college or university and eventually land an in-demand, high-paying career. As a dental hygienist you will help patients improve and maintain good oral health, and will have opportunities to specialize in pediatrics, orthodontics, administration, and more.

You will work with many of the same instruments as a dentist, yet your focus will be on cleaning and protecting teeth before issues occur and reporting possible trouble spots for the dentist to review. Being a dental hygienist can be very flexible, as there are part-time and full-time positions available at dental offices. While the job doesn’t provide much variety, every mouth is different requiring your attention to detail and focus. Some patients can be difficult to work with due to fear of going to the dentist. Yet, for all of the cons this career will provide you with a stable, marketable, and flexible position, affording you a comfortable paycheck and a career keeping people smiling their brightest.
