Engineering can be found in everything from a paper cup to the tallest buildings. If you enjoy tinkering with how things work, can think spatially, and love creating something new, engineering offers a wide array of specialized disciplines for an exciting occupation. We realize that not everyone feels they can succeed taking multiple levels of math and science in order to learn designing, programming, and circuitry basics. Yet, at WNCC we have the faculty that can help you get the foundation and support you need to thrive in an engineering career.

Located at our Scottsbluff campus, WNCC’s Pre-Engineering emphasis area is designed to build your knowledge and skill-level in science, mathematics, engineering basics, and general education needed for the first two years of an engineering bachelor’s degree program. Our program is aligned with the STEP program so you can transfer directly to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Engineering can give you unique opportunities and take you to places all over the world and the WNCC Pre-Engineering program is your starting point to these exciting careers! Our Pre-Engineering program is designed so you can transfer to a four-year institution to get your bachelor’s degree in Engineering. The engineering focus area you decide upon will determine the types of career options you will have. You may choose to pursue mechanical, chemical, petroleum, civil, fashion, sports, architectural, environmental, pyrotechnic, or computer engineering, among many others, as well as urban planning and teaching. We recommend becoming familiar with all of the pathways engineering has to offer so you can take advantage of these in-demand, creative, and problem-solving careers.

These fields are highly technical and require a strong background in math and science. With all of the education you will need to pursue these careers, you will be rewarded with stable, innovative job prospects. In these positions, you will frequently work with computer-aided-design (CAD) software, meetings to discuss the project can be frequent, and you may need to travel to specific locations to review a site of a project. Engineers work for businesses, construction companies, government organizations, non-profits, engineering and architecture firms, and sub-contracting companies, depending on which field you choose. Engineering positions are found in every city, giving you the flexibility to move and experience different landscapes and ideas. Engineers continue to be sought after so expect to have a busy and fulfilling career.
