Foreign Language (Spanish)

Why learn Spanish? Because it’s the second most spoken native language in the world. Over 438 million people worldwide speak Spanish, with 40 million living here in the United States. Another reason is it will help your knowledge of English through understanding how another language is structured. Learning another language improves your critical-thinking skills and broadens your perspectives on how other cultures live.

The Spanish language program at WNCC is designed for both the true beginner in languages and those who already have some knowledge of it. The focus of our program is on language development and cultural discovery. In your first year, you will meet with the instructor daily to ensure constant practice. During your second year, you will meet more often and be responsible for more individual work. At WNCC, we offer small class sizes to give you more opportunity to have conversations and receive individual attention. You’ll also attend “Live Language Lab” sessions with a Spanish-speaking peer-tutor throughout the year, allowing you to practice what you’ve learned in class.

Another unique opportunity you’ll have at WNCC is the short-term study abroad program that’s offered every two years. You can travel to a Spanish-speaking country for three weeks where you will live with a host family, attend a language school during the week to study language and culture, and travel and explore the country on the weekends.
