Love math and science but not sure what you want to do? Be a part of our General Studies program with a Math and Science emphasis and explore your options.

Many first-year college students aren’t sure what they want to study, but know they enjoy or excel in certain subjects. This General Studies program is for those who desire a math and science focus. It’s the perfect place to start learning the diverse and dynamic worlds of math and science and the many careers associated with them. It’s an excellent place to start if you’ve just graduated high school, are transferring to WNCC with several credits, or if you want to change careers.

WNCC's General Studies with a Math and Science emphasis area is designed to give you a well-rounded education within the studies of a variety of math and science fields, including engineering and computer science. The coursework will allow you to get an associate degree or to transfer to a four-year institution and pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Career Opportunities

If you’re interested in science and math, but are unsure what field you’d like to specialize in, WNCC’s General Studies Math & Science program will provide you the groundwork to continue your education or start a career upon graduation. With a General Studies degree, you will have the foundation you need to think strategically and critically, communicate effectively with others, solve complex math and science problems, and navigate a range of disciplines and fields of study.

This option provides a background in math and science, preparing you to pursue further education or enter a career that requires computational/analytical thinking and research, such as a materials scientist, environmental engineer, geoscientist, physicist, chemical engineer, teacher, cartographer, financial analyst, operations research analyst, and a multitude of others. All of these careers, and so many within the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields use science and math at their core, needing methodical and innovative thinking to solve problems in creating and building all of the items we use and need. In these careers, you will be asked to use math and science techniques to research, analyze, and create reports on your predictions or conclusions. These are typically in-demand, rewarding careers where outside-of-the-box thinking is not only preferred, but valued.
