WNCC’s pre-medicine emphasis area is offered at our Scottsbluff campus and provides you with the first two years of study needed toward admission to a college of medicine.

About the Program

Program Objectives

Provide the information and credit required for students to continue upper division premedical studies at a four-year college or university.
Provide coursework basic to a variety of curricula. Students can change their educational goals to other areas, especially in the life sciences, with little or no lost time.

Career Opportunities

A Pre-Medicine degree at WNCC will prepare you to continue your education at a four-year institution in Pre-Medicine and eventually pursue a Doctor of Medicine degree.

Beyond medical school, you may choose to work as a general practitioner or you can specialize in one of hundreds of medical specialties including cardiovascular health, endocrinology, pediatrics, geriatrics, internal medicine, neurology, or oncology, to name just a few. You can choose to work in hospitals, outpatient clinics, your own practice, public health offices, non-profit organizations, or with other healthcare providers. There are several other rewarding careers you can pursue with a degree in medicine such as a medical researcher, health journalist, medical photographer, medical educator, medical examiner, public health worker, medical legal advisor, and many others. As a doctor, you are often on your feet, working with people with different ailments, including having possibly infectious diseases. The hours in residency are often long, and the path to getting your doctorate can be difficult. You will need to memorize and retain a lot of information quickly. You will need to be skilled at problem-solving and listening and be compassionate. This can be a very rewarding career for all of the challenges it presents, and being prepared for what’s ahead makes it that much more enjoyable.
