The value behind the science of psychology has finally been discovered, assisting industries and all facets of human life as it never has before.

Help build safer and more efficient products, aid athletes to find their motivation, build better communication tools for businesses and their employees. Unlike the limited view of the clinical psychology of the past, today’s psychology majors have many different career pathways to explore, including clinical. Having a profession in psychology also offers you the ability to run your own business and the flexibility to live and work anywhere.

This major will advance your knowledge of behavior and give you a foundation in liberal arts through classes such as science, mathematics, language arts, social science, and foreign language. You will also be able to apply the experience you acquire in the field to your future training or work in the health professions.

WNCC’s Psychology emphasis area is offered at all three of our campuses and is designed to give you the background you’ll need for a liberal education, as well as knowledge of a wide variety of subgroups within this multifaceted discipline. Upon graduating from the program, you will be able to transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Fulfill the graduation requirements for the Associate of Arts degree.
Facilitate the student’s entry into a baccalaureate program in psychology at a college or university.
Stimulate student’s interest in their own self-growth as they increase their understanding of others.

Career Opportunities

With the knowledge you acquire in WNCC’s Psychology associate degree program, you will be able to pursue a bachelor’s degree and beyond in the field of psychology or other social sciences.

Career opportunities aren’t solely limited to being a therapist. If you are curious about why humans act and react as they do and want to help people lead mentally healthier lives, you may find many of the subcategories beyond clinical psychology compelling when choosing your career pathway. A few of these are neuroscience, developmental, educational, behavioral, cognitive, social, industry/organization, engineering, community, and sports, and can lead to positions which further our understanding of how we function mentally. Some of these positions include psychiatric technician, psychometrist, forensics psychologist, marketing researcher, industry/organization psychologist, laboratory assistant, human resource personnel, sports psychologist, and probation, parole and police officer.

Clinical psychology is still the largest subset, with counseling and therapy being the largest pathways that have careers such as therapist, substance abuse counselor, music or art therapist, college administration counselor, and social worker, to name just a few in this extensive field. Whichever you choose, you’ll find yourself in a highly respected and fulfilling career.
