Trevor Aguirre

Trevor Aguirre

Trevor Aguirre, a WNCC graduate from Briggsdale, Colorado, credits WNCC’s supportive environment for fostering his “fail forward” mindset. At WNCC, he earned two Associate of Science degrees, later achieving a BS, MS, and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at CSU. Now a special fellow at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Trevor researches advanced ceramics and composites to withstand extreme environments. Outside work, he enjoys outdoor adventures, including a memorable honeymoon spanning nine National Parks. Trevor also enjoys cooking wild game and baking sourdough bread, skills he hones with enthusiasm.

Jean Carol Ahrens

Jean Ahrens

Jean Ahrens, raised in Torrington, Wyoming, pursued her education at Loretto Heights College and earned an MA from UC Irvine. She joined Nebraska Western College (now WNCC) as a teacher, intending only a brief stay, but ended up dedicating over 45 years to teaching. Passionate about children’s literature, she retired after 39 years but continued teaching part-time. Jean, mother to daughters Xuan and Thuvan, has traveled widely, yet cherishes small-town life in Scottsbluff, where she now volunteers and enjoys community activities and mystery novels.

Fred and Carol Lockwood

Fred and Carol Lockwood have long dedicated themselves to community service and philanthropy, especially through the Lockwood Foundation, established by Fred’s father in 1955. Retired in Colorado, they continue to support their Nebraska roots, directing contributions to WNCC for technology, campus renovations, and career support. Fred, a retired CPA, and Carol, his steadfast partner, have impacted countless lives through their work. In 2023, Fred completed the Monument Marathon 5K at 83, underscoring his commitment to WNCC and the community they have supported for over 30 years.

Winkler Family

The Winkler family’s legacy began with Harold and Mildred Winkler, founders of Winkler Electric and strong advocates of education. Their children—Jerry, Chuck, and Judi—all attended Scottsbluff Junior College (now WNCC), where Jerry and Chuck excelled as student-athletes. Chuck married Patty Miller, a fellow WNCC alumna, who has served on the WNCC Foundation board since 2001. Together, they have supported scholarships and volunteered for the Monument Marathon. George D. Holthus

George Holthus

George Holthus, class of 1987 is a Gering, Nebraska native. He began his law enforcement career in 1987 after earning an associate degree in human services from WNCC. A practicum with the Gering Police sparked his passion, leading to over 30 years of service. Rising through roles in patrol, investigations, and supervision, George graduated from the FBI National Academy and earned a Criminal Justice degree. Promoted to Chief in 2013, he now serves proudly. An active community member, George enjoys family, outdoor activities, and supporting Gering through dedicated public service.

Carr-Trumbull Lumber Company

Carr-Trumbull Lumber Company has supported Scottsbluff, Nebraska, for over a century. Founded by J.M. Carr and H.W. Neff, it has grown alongside the valley's development, with irrigation boosting local prosperity. In 1939, W.S. "Bill" Trumbull joined, followed by J. Carr Trumbull in 1958, whose community involvement became a hallmark of the business. The business expanded in 1995 and acquired George Woods Interiors in 2010, cementing its regional presence. Now led by fourth-generation family members Bill and Jim, the company proudly champions community service, growth, and customer loyalty, upholding a trusted legacy.   *Pictured: Jim, Bill, and Sarah Trumbull*
